OUR HISTORY

The Society came into existence on 30th March, 1989 with just 24 members of staff of the Obafemi Awolowo University’s Health Centre. The idea came from these 24 members in order to meet up with their financial obligations. It was observed and discovered that members of staff of Health Centre incessantly requested for salary advance which always gave the Director Health Services much concern, then the introduction of a Thrift and Credit Cooperative Society to replace salary advance taken which had become worrisome.

Thankfully, with the emergence of a Thrift and Credit Cooperative Society, there was a drastic reduction in the request for salary advance from members of staff. Apart from fulfilling its obligation to her members by granting ordinary loans, special loans in case of emergency, the Society also provided credit facility for food items like rice, beans and oil to members at a considerably reduced price which the society still obliged to do till date.

The Society was officially registered with ten (10) members as Ifeloju (Ife) Cooperative Investment and Credit Society (CICS) O. A. U Ife on 6th September, 1996.

However, as time goes on, membership could no longer be restricted to members of staff of the University Health Centre but became opened to all interested members of staff of the University. To the glory of God and efforts of its past and present executive officers, the membership has grown from 24 to about 450 and still counting. The Society which began its operation from an office room apartment at the University Health Centre has moved to its own gigantic society building that was commissioned on 22nd June, 2018. The building has more than enough society offices and a big Multipurpose events hall that can conveniently host about 2000 guests.
